Club History
In 1949, the Great Falls Kennel & Gun Dog Club was formed. The club later changed it's name to The Rocky Mountain Dog Club in 1956. There were 98 members at that time. Our current name would come about in 1958 when the original larger club split into multiple clubs, and we became the Electric City Kennel Club (ECKC).
Since its beginnings in 1958, in an effort to promote education and responsible dog ownership, the Electric City Kennel Club has sponsored an annual AKC All Breed Conformation Show which included Obedience and Rally Trials. While the ECKC began as a “Conformation” club devoted to breeding and showing Pure Bred Dogs, in recent years the club has grown to encompass the “All-American Dogs” who are allowed to compete in AKC Performance Events. ECKC now offers numerous performance events throughout the year such as Fast Cat, Scent Work, Farm Dog Certified, Temperament Tests, Trick Dog, Fetch Test, Fit Dog, Agility Tests and Canine Good Citizen Tests. Several of our members and their canine companions participate in Therapy Dog work throughout the Great Falls Community.
The Electric City Kennel Club (ECKC) is pleased to extend an invitation to you to become a member of our organization. When you join ECKC, you become a member of an American Kennel Club All Breed organization with similar clubs all over the United States. Members come from all walks of life; however, the values of friendship and our interest in the advancement of all breeds of dogs are the principles that bring us together.
The ECKC sponsors seminars with nationally recognized experts in handling, breeding, etc. The ECKC sponsors health clinics to provide OFA heart and eye screenings by board certified veterinarians from out-of-state and other health specialists. This, in particular, is a valuable service to our members, considering the fact Montana has very few in-state board certified veterinarians.
